Uninstall ATI Drivers with Remnants – Nice and Easy!

Problems with ATI drivers are not unusual, infact there are several users who complain of problems with it. Some common concerns with the ATI Drivers are sudden freezing of your computer screen, corruption of files, anomalies, and even blue screen error. However if you’ve already tried your luck trying to uninstall and reinstall the Driver then you know by now that it does not work at all.

A reason why this particular video card gives uses problems amplified is because the manufacturers outsource their software and product programming. What is evident from this is that compatibility is not good enough, giving rise to several issues that you face with your ATI driver. This being a major problem, it comes as no surprise that you might want to uninstall the ATI Drivers from your computer. However most users do the mistake of uninstalling and trying to install the same ATI driver version, which is wrong in itself. What most experts would recommend is that you install a newer version of the ATI drivers on your computer.

Unfortunately though you will have to uninstall the ATI driver, if you have to installer a fresher newer version of it. Otherwise, even if you’ve thought of usineg a new video card, you will have to uninstall the existing version of the ATI Drivers from your computer. This will help the new drivers to install correctly and function as needed.

Here are a few easy steps recommended that will help you unistall the ATI Drivers from your computer.

  • Click on the Start Menu of your computer and choose the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel.
  • You will locate the ATI Drivers here, along with the ATI Catalyst Control. Choose these and click on Remove Programs.
  • Once the program is uninstalled, restart your computer.
  • During the boot up process, choose the Safe mode, when getting back to Windows you get a New Hardware Found Wizard. You need to hit the cancel button.
  • Search for files or folders that belong to the ATI Drivers. You will normally get 3-4 files that could also be present in the Windows/System Directory. Delete tese files and continue to empty your Recycle Bill.
  • Go to the registry where you will find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_SYSTEM—ControlSet001—Control — Video. There are about 4 of these listed here,expand these entries and delete the ones that belong to ATI Drivers.
  • Do the same for the Software Registry Key Section as well. This will ensure that the registry is clean.

However you need to make sure that you don’t uninstall any other file, as this could result in a computer crash.
